Best Seller Formula
How does a book get to the top of the “Best Seller” list?
It isn’t always because it is a good read. Most of the time it is due to promotion and distribution. A book rated three stars on Amazon can be on the Best Seller list. Patterson’s books are the best example. Even his mediocre books make it to the top of the list.
If you are self-publishing, and have written the best read out there, you may not sell many books without a strong publicist and national distribution. Even Sandra Brown can’t get to the top of the list with her best novel yet: Rainwater.
Marlene and I thought it was definitely a five star book, a great read, and the best she has written. It is rated higher that her other recent novels, some that have made it to the best seller lists.
So the best way to get to the top of the list is normally due to publicity, national distribution, and usually a recognized name. So even your literary masterpiece and can’t-put-down book won’t likely go far without these three factors.
